What is a Psychic?

"I'm a psychic, not a magician!"

I utter those words often to people who do not understand what a psychic can do. When they find out I have the gift, the first thing they ask is “what number am I thinking?”

I always think of the old, late-night act that Johnny Carson used to do. He’d wear a big turban, and guess the answer to the question in the sealed envelope that Ed McMahon was holding. It's funny, it’s entertaining, but it’s not psychic.

Think of psychics as people who have access to “useful” information

Clearly, the number in your head isn’t going to do much to help you make an important life decision. So don’t be discouraged or write someone off during a reading if they don’t know the answer to “what number am I thinking.”

The ability to read someone is a gift from God, or whomever you call your higher power. The gift allows certain people to have enhanced access to divine information. These certain people are called psychics. They may refer to themselves as intuitives, clairvoyants or mystics.

The information is generally useful to the person being read and it comes from your life chart. A chart of predestined events that you created for yourself before you incarnated on earth. Your life chart is also part of the Akashic records, a record of everything on this earth that has ever happened and will ever happen.

Some clairvoyants tap into the chart directly, while others receive it via their guides. Guides are spirits from the other side, or heaven as some may call it.

Please note that most intuitives don’t consciously think about where the information comes from, but only that it surfaces when they call for it. Since most have been doing this all their lives, it would be like thinking about where your breath comes from when you breathe.

Having intuitive ability doesn’t mean we walk around town knowing everything about everyone.

Most people who have the gift are extremely respectful and never read anyone who doesn’t want to be read. Think of it like going to a library. You’re in a room full of books, but you don’t necessarily know what each book is about unless you take it down, open it and read it. We can choose to tune-in or not to people with whom we interact.

Clairvoyant, Clairaudient, Intuitive

How a a person taps into his gift can vary greatly. There are many ways to tune-in to the information.

Clairvoyant

Clairaudient

Intuitive

Medical Intuitive

Medium

Some have more than one gift, such as clairvoyant and clairaudient. This means someone can see and/or hear the information.

Most have a bit of all the senses mixed together. Intuitive is probably the most common description used. It means a feeling of knowingness that comes from within.

Pet intuitives have a gift for communicating with animals. Most readers will be able to do this, but some actually specialize in this subject. They can perform pet readings with extreme clarity.

Medical intuitives specialize in uncovering medical conditions that often stump physicians.

Mediums can communicate with the dead.

Tarot Cards and other props

The use of props such as tarot cards are another popular way to access information. There are many different tools someone can use to read and/or interpret the information for the client.

Tarot cards

Astrology Charts

Palm readings

Tea Leaves

Psychics cannot read themselves

One last thing worth mentioning is that intuitives cannot read themselves. World-renowned clairvoyant, Sylvia Browne, described it as cheating on a test. If we knew everything about our lives, we wouldn’t have any motivation to leave the house and learn our lessons. So we can go to other readers to give us “useful” information. However, we only get what God wants us to know like everyone else.

Additionally, we can read family and friends. However, the closer you are to someone the more difficult it is to do a reading. The reason being is that a personal opinion has already been formed and that makes it difficult to be a pure conduit of information.
